People are always in need. It is the need that drives people at times. The needy tended to gravitate to the temple to seek help. That is why Jesus never was allowed any breaks. Now that the apostles were performing the same kind of miracles that Jesus performed (mostly healing the sick and wounded) the people were always coming to them with their needs.
One day, Peter and John went to the temple to pray around 3pm. One day they were stopped by a lame man who was begging to survive. He asked Peter and John for money while looking at the ground. He did not take pride in having to beg, but he would starve if he didn't. Peter ordered him to look at them. He did expecting something. Peter looked him in the eyes when he said I don't have money, but in Jesus' name get and walk. It took faith that was easy to Peter at this point and new faith from the man who could now walk. If he had not believed, then he would have just stayed on his mat.
The apostles were very careful to perform all their miracles in Jesus' name. They made sure that God got the glory and not themselves. This is how they lived out their testimony. Laying hands and healing has gotten a bad reputation over the years because of selfish and manipulative people. However, the Holy Spirit has the power to give you the ability to heal via medicine, counseling, laying hands, or some other way. You just need to have faith and act on that faith.
Peter had gotten used to this way of life. He had forgotten how amazing it is to see people healed in a moment. Maybe he just expected people to expect it because Jesus had healed people for about three years. These people believed in the resurrection. Peter knowing all this found himself surprised that they were amazed that the apostles could heal. Peter may have been a little impatient, but he was really good at reminding people what was at stake and who Jesus is.
Peter was a wonderful leader, but he had gotten used to the awe inspiring moments that he lived everyday. He forgot that people mature in Christianity at different levels. Maybe some of these people had never seen a miracle. He challenged the people on their personal faith. Faith is what makes a Christian strong and gives them the ability to heal, speak tongues, or have other supernatural abilities.
Peter ordered the people not to be ignorant. That is why we need to learn the Bible. We need to learn what we abilities that we can tap into through the Holy Spirit. We need to understand the reason why some people can do something and others can not. It almost always comes to faith. If you ignore the warnings, then you will be cut off.
Embrace your faith. Let it grow and shine. Feed it and starve doubt. Repent from any sin that may be holding you back because you have to allow the Holy Spirit to really fill you before you too could do miracles. God is the answer. He is what makes your life full. He can change a wicked heart into something beautiful and powerful. It is better to get rid of your evil ways and embrace a personal relationship with Jesus. It is a soul saving covenant.
