Detours can be frustrating especially if you are on a schedule. It may make your feel rushed, stressed, annoyed, and frustrated. However, if you plan for detours and to stop along the way, then you can see it as an adventure. It is all about your perspective on the situation.
When life does not go your way, do not blame other people or God for your circumstances. God may be putting you there for a reason. If so, then it is guaranteed that it is for your benefit. However, if you make choices that go against God, then He will allow you to pay the consequences. No matter where you are it is not God's fault. He is right there with you putting up with your bad attitude waiting for you to ask for help.
If you are in God's will and life take a detour, then you can trust that is has a purpose. We don't need to be so focused on the finish line that we forget to enjoy all that life has to offer now. If it is not a pleasant part of the journey, then trust that God will get you through it and you will be stronger once you do get through.
Sometimes a detour will be a permanent life change that you were not prepared for. It is important to acknowledge that you are not happy about it. Go to God about your disappointments. It does you no good to pretend to be okay all the time when you are not. Do not be afraid to go to God when you are angry. He wants to help you deal with all your feelings, so He can really help you move forward.
When your life takes a detour, take responsibility for your part in the change. This is the first step in allowing Him to help you heal from whatever wound that needs to be healed (Physical, emotional, or soul). Work with God in the healing and see that a detour does not mean that your life is over. He will direct you once you have had time to heal. He truly wants you to succeed, but part of this success is relying on Him.
There will be times where God puts the intense spotlight on your life. If you have no hidden sins, then it is no big deal. If you do have hidden sins, this is when you will no longer be able to ignore them. Don't try to run from it, but embrace the light.
If you are prepared for detours in life, then it is much easier to deal with. If you leave for work early and run into a detour, then you do not need to worry about being late. If you are in God's Word daily and allowing Him to work in and on you, then a spiritual detour will not be devasting. Start your day with Him and the day is easier to bare. Nothing is too difficult for God. Not even you, so trust Him to he there no matter what.
