The Tower of Babel is part of the history of man. It tells a story of a time when people thought that they were better than God. God gave people existence, life, freewill, and more then people tried to cut him out of the picture. This is a story of God's people witnessing and causing the world to change.
God's Word is the foundation of truth throughout time. God is not shy in telling us what His attitude toward sin is. Sin brings judgment. God gives people so many opportunities to change, but He will be ignored for only so long before He does something that will grab our attention.
Sin always leads to destruction. The construction of the Tower of Babel was a defiant act against God. The judgment was the loss of common communication. God scattered His people and each group had to come up with their own language. This is the moment that one universal language disappeared. We will never know what that language was. This is also probably about the time that writing became a thing.
The whole purpose of the Tower of Babel was for the people to rise up against God. We are not God. We will never be able to do what He does. Why would we ever think that we could build a structure that would reach Heaven? Yet they tried.
We now have over 7,000 languages in the world. This is the cost of our sinful nature. No one will ever be able to talk to everyone ever again in life. The people united as one to work against God and the cost was high. The structure was abandoned and lost in history. It was a terrible loss to lose one language because we were created to need to be able to communicate and relate to other people.
Genesis 11:1-9
