Truth on Righteousness

The truth about righteousness is that it comes from Jesus.  No one is righteous without believing in Jesus and accepting salvation.  Only then do you have the connection with God to understand His will for your life.  Only then do you have the Holy Spirit speak truth to your heart and soul to live righteous.  Anyone who does not follow Jesus can only see righteousness as a concept instead of a way of life.
As a Christian, it is your responsibility to demonstrate righteousness to the world.  You are able to do this by showing the world your inner peace.  You know that you chains to sin have been broken.  You sometimes go back to bad habit, thought processes, and bad attitudes, but you know what real freedom is.  You choose to live out God's laws because you love Him and know that He loves you more than anything in this world.
Living out righteousness takes the pressure off to please the world.  You do your best to do right by everyone, but you know who you are living to please.  It gives you confidence to do what is right when everyone else is telling you it is wrong.
Being righteous has simple steps.  The first step is to realize you are a sinner and repent.  That means actually hurt over your sins and choose to walk away from them.  The second step is believing in the truth about Jesus.  Third step is embracing your faith and actively working on it.  The last step is sanctification.  That is growing in holiness.
You are not perfect, you need to repent and move forward many times, but sin will no long have complete control over your life.  Righteousness is an honor and privilege of being a part of Jesus' family.  We should live up to that title by putting on the full armor of God everyday.  One missing piece can cause you harm.
