Covenant Renewed

When things change in your life where do you go to find comfort?  What do you do?  Whom do you want to be around?  Or do you prefer to be alone?  For the most part, there is no right or wrong answer.  However, if you chose to turn to God first and allow Him to use things in this world to comfort you, then that is the best solution for true healthy comfort.
Joshua stepped down and now the nation's future solely laid on the leaders shoulders.  It is one thing to lead and know that there is another that is responsible for the outcome.  It is something completely different taking full responsibility upon yourself.  They went to the Law of Moses and reviewed their history.
Joshua's final act as a leader was to assemble all the people and read God's Word.  They all agreed to serve God openly as one.  They were each other's witnesses.  They agreed to put away a rebellious spirit and yield their hearts to God completely.  When they freely agreed, Joshua renewed the covenant with God and the people to be put on record in the Book of Laws.
A short time later Joshua died at 110.  He was buried in Ephraim.  Eleazar died a short time after.  The two main national and spiritual leaders died leaving the nation to make their own way in life.  It was now up to them to succeed or fail.
For the most part everyone who was alive when they escaped Egypt was dead.  This was a whole new generation that had to figure things out for themselves.  They needed to know their history to understand the impact of where they were.  If we don't teach the next generation why things are important, then it will not be important to them.
