Recruitment

The purpose of recruitment is to fill in the number of people, so that you look more intimating or to secure service.  It is meant to restore or replenish.  When we become Christians we are recruited into God's service.
God ordered His people to fight the Canaanites in their land to be able to take it.  After Joshua's death they decided which territory to go after first.  They decided Judah, then Simeonites territories.
The fighting was vicious, but they succeeded.  They killed King Adoni-Bezek and mutualated the body to make a statement.  Then they took Jerusalem and burned it.  Many towns were taken.  Caleb offered his daughter, Ascah, in marriage to whomever too Kirath Sepher.  His youngest brother, Othniel succeeded.  He married his niece and she asked Caleb for a field as a wedding present.  He gave it to her happily.
After Calab's land was taken, they went after the Simeonite land.  They did good, but they allowed the Jebusites to remain in Jerusalem.  The remaining Manasseh tribe took their land, but failed to take Beth-shean, Taanach, or the srrounding villages.  They allowed Dor Ibleam and the Megiddo to remain.
It continued until each tribe took their land, but each tribe failed to drive out all of the inhabitants.  They made the remaining Canaanites Laborers.  It probably looked like a good deal at the time, but God had ordered them to kill all the people that lived there with no exception.   This would prove to be a major problem down the road.
