Abishur means "father of the wall" or "father of uprightness" depending on the context. The person mentioned in the Old Testament would have been father of uprightness. It was his integrity that granted him a spot in the names of Israel's heritage. Abishur was in the family line of Jarahmeel. His father was Shammas. His brother was Nadab. His wife was Ahihail. She bore him two sons (Ahban and Molid). This reveals that he had a family of character because so many were listed.
Where we come from is important, but it does not define you. Growing up in a Godly home does not ensure your salvation. It is important to know who you are. Understanding your heritage can help you sometimes understand who you are. It just is not every aspect of who you are. You have the power to break the chains of the inherited sin. You don't have to stay in what may hold your family down. You have the power with God to change your family story.
1 Chronicles 2:25-29
