An abomination is a thing that causes disgust or hatred. It gives a person or a people group feelings of hatred. When it comes to the Bible it is dedicated mostly to idolatry and all the aspects that lead to idolatry like illicit sex, lying, murder, deceit, and uncleanliness.
Once there was a severe famine. It was so bad that people were willing to eat anything. They were willing to give up anything to have some food and water. This famine eventually led to the first case of cannibalism. Cannibalism is an abomination to God. He wanted His people to endure and trust that He would provide.
Some people did endure and kept their faith. Some of these people were the family of Joseph. They went to Egypt to find food, so they could survive with integrity. What they did not expect was to be at the mercy of the brother that they betrayed so many years before. The worst part is that they didn't even recognize him.
Joseph had his brothers eat a meal with him. They thought he was Egyptian. It would have been an abomination for them to eat with someone unclean, but he was their last hope. They accepted the invitation, but Joseph did not eat with them because he was not ready to reveal himself.
Many years later it was Moses that had to stand for his people to not be like the Egyptians or Canaanites. He had to lead his people to be careful in how they followed God's laws and decrees. He really emphasized the sexual sins, so that God's people would not become an abomination.
It is so easy for people to fall into sin habits that we sometimes forget that it is a sin unless we stay in God's Word. God made it clear that if we live an abominable life, then we will be cut off from salvation. You can not live for God and for yourself (selfish worldly desires) at the same time. That is why it is important not to defile ourselves.
Ask God to search your heart, so that you can remove anything that is an abomination to God from your life. He desires an intimate relationship. We can't have that if we are drowning in sin. He understands you. He knows you. Ask to see yourself the way He sees you. Face Him because you can't hide anything from Him anyway. Allow Him to test you, so that you can remove any abominable thing you find in your life. Ask Him to show you your path and lead you in it so that you never stray again.
Leaders need to know what justice is and follow it. Leaders need to hate what is evil. God can use anyone in a leadership position, but that does not mean that they are guaranteed salvation. He will not listen to anyone with evil in their heart. Those cries will be ignored because they ignored God when it mattered.
Do not let evil in any format lead you astray. Those who chose abomination will be ashamed and disgraced in time. The people who are convicted as an abomination to God will be treated like desecration and removed from the presence of God forever.
No matter who your leaders are, chose to follow the Holy Spirit. He hold the power, protection, wisdom, justice, and might that you need in life. Do not allow the perceived power of the world to dissuade you from doing what is right in life. Do not allow money and social influence draw you away from God's love and protection. Lean on God in the good times and the bad and you will not have to worry about being an abomination to Him.
